Mount Teide, the highest point of Tenerife

Tenerife is the perfect island for some winter sun. Warm and sunny year-round, this Canary Island has near-perpeptual blue skies and plenty of hotels in its resorts.

But on my last trip to Tenerife, this is not what I was looking for. On this trip I prized myself from my sun lounger to hike up to the very top of the island – and Spain’s highest point.

Mount Teide is Tenerife’s highlight in every way. She dominates the landscape, often visible even from the southern beaches, and no visit to the island is complete without at least taking the cable car ride up her flank.

To really get to grips with her though, you need to climb all the way to the summit. So that’s what I did – and it was an unforgettable experience.
