“The windscreen is wall-to-wall blue, my bonnet pointing up so vertically it feels like the car could tip backwards at any moment and send me tumbling. I push my foot down harder on the accelerator and feel the lurch of the engine kicking in, propelling me upwards, seemingly into the sky.”

One of my favourite places to travel – and especially to do a road trip – is right here at home, in Great Britain. Sure, Route 66 is iconic and the Great Ocean Road a beauty, but for me neither can compete with the unique blend of scenic beauty, ancient culture and quirky stop off points that our island offers up on its very best driving routes.

I was recently asked by the Telegraph to write about my favourite British road trips. I chose the North Coast 500 in Scotland, the Coastal Way in Wales and the new Great West Way in England.
